Common Ground Healthcare and CORE/el Centro Announce Partnership

NON-PROFITS JOIN TOGETHER TO HELP MILWAUKEEANS RELIEVE STRESS, LIVE HEALTHIER
BROOKFIELD, WIS. (Jan. 5, 2017) – Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative (CGHC) and CORE/El Centro are working together to help Milwaukee residents regardless of income find emotional and financial support for stress relief, health and wellbeing.
CGHC is piloting a project in 2017 that will provide certain services at no cost to its Milwaukee County members. Located in Walker’s Point on Milwaukee’s south side, CORE/El Centro provides integrative healing services include acupuncture, massage therapy and body work; exercise and movement classes; and programs in Spanish and English that focus on a variety of topics including nutrition and children’s wellness.
Cathy Mahaffey, CEO of CGHC, said the cooperative pursued the partnership to fill a serious gap in the nation’s health care and insurance systems. “Like all of us, our members have stress and emotional difficulties in their lives that gets in the way of healing and living healthier,” Mahaffey said. “People with lower incomes need help and support to address this need, and we were blessed to have been introduced to the impressive work of CORE/El Centro which was founded for this purpose.”
CORE/El Centro is a recent recipient of grant dollars through the Aurora Health Care Better Together Fund. The grant award recognizes the importance of bringing natural healing therapies and wellness programs to those in need. Over 80% of CORE/El Centro clients are low income and uninsured, while at least 60% of CGHC members make less than 250% of the federal poverty level.
“Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative shares our passion for creating access to wellness and healing services for people at all income levels,” said Madeline Gianforte, CSA, executive director of CORE/El Centro. “As fellow non-profits, we advocate for our clients to improve access to the care they need and support social change through building a strong sense of community. In so many ways, our partnership with CGHC is a natural fit.”
To introduce its members to CORE/El Centro, CGHC is inviting all members living in Milwaukee County to take advantage of a free welcome visit that includes a healing therapy session and one month of unlimited movement classes. Members will soon receive a voucher in the mail for the free services.
